What Sequester Is
Sequester is a private storage service for photos, videos, and related files. We are built to limit ordinary access to user content and to keep your files protected during transfer and storage.
Your Data Belongs To You
You own the files you upload to Sequester. We do not claim ownership of your photos, videos, filenames, folders, or other stored content. We use your data only to provide the service, protect the platform, support your account, comply with lawful obligations, and respond to requests you make.
Account And Service Data We Collect
We collect the information needed to operate your account, such as your email address, password-derived authentication data, login records, IP addresses used to access the service, device or client information, storage usage, file metadata, security preference settings, and support communications.
When login alerts are enabled, Sequester uses login status, IP address, time, and device or client information to notify you about successful or failed login attempts.
When intrusion detection is enabled, the mobile app may send a captured image, timestamp, and attempted PIN information to the service so that the event can be recorded and reported to you.
Stored Files And Master Key Retention
Sequester encrypts uploaded files after they are received by the service. We also retain a master recovery capability so that data is not permanently lost in limited recovery and support situations. This is an intentional design choice: it gives customers a path to recover access if they otherwise lock themselves out or need help retrieving their own data.
Because that recovery capability exists, Sequester is not a system where the company is technically incapable of assisting with account-level recovery. Access to stored customer content from our side is restricted and must be tied to a valid reason, such as a customer request, account recovery, a credible complaint or suspicion involving illegal data, abuse investigation, security incident response, or a valid legal request.
We do not browse customer files casually, for advertising, or for unrelated business purposes.
When We May Access Or Disclose Data
Sequester may access, review, preserve, or disclose account data or stored files when reasonably necessary to:
- Respond to a customer request for support, export, recovery, or troubleshooting.
- Investigate credible reports of illegal content, abuse, fraud, or misuse of the service.
- Protect Sequester, our users, our systems, and the public from harm.
- Comply with subpoenas, court orders, warrants, or other valid legal processes.
- Enforce our Terms of Service.
Security And Transmission
Files and API traffic are transmitted over SSL/TLS where supported. Uploaded files are encrypted for storage after transmission. No storage system is perfect, but we design Sequester to reduce ordinary exposure of user files and to keep administrative access limited to legitimate operational, legal, or user-requested reasons.
Retention
We retain account information and stored files while your account remains active or as needed to provide the service. We may retain logs, billing records, security records, and legal compliance records for longer when necessary for security, audit, dispute, or legal reasons.
