Account Deletion
Last updated: July 9, 2026
Requesting Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your Sequester account and associated stored data from an authenticated Sequester session. On the website, log in and open Settings, then use Delete Account. In the mobile app, use the account deletion control in Settings when available.
The deletion flow requires typing DELETE-ACCOUNT to confirm. Email support is available for account-access problems, but ordinary account deletion requests should be started from a logged-in web or app session.
Verification
Before accepting a deletion request, Sequester verifies that the requester controls the account through an authenticated website or app session. Additional support-assisted verification may be required if normal access is unavailable.
We do not require unnecessary identity documents when account ownership can be verified by a less invasive method.
Pending Deletion Period
After verification, the account enters a 5 day pending-deletion period. This period is intended to prevent accidental deletion and allow time to cancel the request if it was made in error.
Sequester provides the scheduled deletion date when the request is accepted. During the pending-deletion period, account access remains available so you can retrieve files unless a security, abuse, or legal reason requires restriction.
What Is Deleted
At the end of the pending-deletion period, Sequester will delete or irreversibly de-identify active account data where technically and legally possible, including account credentials, stored files, file metadata, thumbnails or previews, temporary processing files, device/session tokens, and account-linked records that are no longer needed for a valid purpose.
Individual File Deletion
You do not need to delete your entire account to remove individual files. Users may delete individual photos, videos, folders, or other stored files from within the mobile app or from a logged-in website session.
Individual file deletion is intended to take effect immediately in the active account interface. Deleted files are removed from ordinary account access without closing the account itself. As with account deletion, residual copies may remain temporarily in encrypted backups until those backups expire under Sequester's normal backup schedule.
This option is useful when you want to remove specific content while keeping your Sequester account, remaining files, login history, storage plan, and account settings active.
Backups
Deleted data may remain in encrypted backups until those backups expire under Sequester's normal backup schedule. Backup copies are not restored for ordinary account access after deletion, and deleted accounts should remain logically deleted if a backup is restored for operational reasons.
Limited Retention
Sequester may retain limited records when reasonably necessary for billing, tax compliance, payment disputes, fraud prevention, abuse prevention, security investigations, enforcing account restrictions, legal compliance, responding to valid legal process, or establishing, exercising, or defending legal claims.
Limited retained records are intended to be access-restricted and kept only as long as the retention purpose requires. Sequester does not retain the full contents of a user's vault merely because minimal billing, security, or fraud records must be kept.
Legal Holds And Preservation
If Sequester receives a valid preservation request, subpoena, warrant, court order, litigation hold, statutory preservation requirement, or other documented legal obligation, deletion may be delayed or suspended for the records covered by that obligation.
Where legally and technically appropriate, data outside the scope of the hold will still be deleted. Sequester may be legally restricted from notifying a user about certain legal holds or requests.
Suspected Illegal Content Or Abuse
If Sequester obtains credible information indicating illegal content, abuse, fraud, or security risk, account deletion may be delayed for the limited records necessary to investigate, preserve evidence, comply with law, or protect users and the service.
Cancelling A Request
If your account is still in the pending-deletion period, you may cancel the request from website Settings or from the mobile app Settings area when available. Once final deletion has completed, restoration may not be possible.
Subscriptions
Account deletion does not automatically cancel Apple App Store billing. Manage Apple subscriptions at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
